Just a quick notice regards this months activities etc

· On Friday 15th Feb, the bouldering room will be closed for route setting

· On Saturday 16th Feb, Dynamic Rock will be closed to the public for the annual WUSA competition which is a Welsh universities climbing competition. Spectators are welcome so if you’ve not seen a competition before, it is well worth a watch.

· Also, on Tuesday 19th Feb at approximately 7pm there will be a free evening of lectures. The first will offer an insight into training programs for climbing and one-to-one coaching by Paul Walters, discussing how to achieve your potential by discussing fundamental training principles and theories. The second lecture will be by Stefan Doerr, renowned for his on-sight trad climbing, Stefan will be covering all aspects of climbing’s ‘mental’ game. Lectures are expected to last appoximately half an hour in each.

So whether you are an established climber or a complete beginner, the lecture evenings will be sure to offer you something worthwhile!

Well, it's the morning after the Tim Emmett lecture and our second birthday went off with a bang. Around 70 people tunred up to help us celebrate and were treated to an excellent lecture by the bouncing blonde maniac!

I did try to write this on the Blog, but it seems that you guys have exceeded our expectations in the amount of usage it would see and you've broken it! I can't do anything about it today as it's a Sunday, but will get onto the blog provider first thing Monday morning to increase the bandwidth :)

16/01/08 BLOG GOES LIVE!
The Dynamic Rock Weblog or "blog" is now live and will be a great way for you to give us your feedback on how we're doing, but also will make publishing news and articles a whole lot easier. The Blog will also include time limited offers to download and use at the wall, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for those so that you don't miss out!

NOV 07 New Training Wall

For those that haven’t been in for a while we have an addition to the Bouldering Room. A small but dedicated team (Nick, Paul and Simon) have built us a fab new training wall. Utilising free wall space, the training wall has been designed and built with an articulated feature so that it can be used upright at 27° or lowered to 42° for some hard core training!

Winter Opening Times

Weekend opening times have been extended for the winter months. We are now open until 8pm on both Saturday and Sunday until the Spring.

Bouldering Competitions and other Events

Bouldering Competitions: Dynamic Rock will be running its friendly Winter Bouldering Series again this winter, dates as follows;

Saturday 1st December

Saturday 26th January

Saturday 29th March

Start time will be 2pm. £5 entry. Prizes at the end of the series for highest points scored. Categories for Male/Female Junior (8-16), Senior (17+).

Lectures: Dynamic Rock will be organising a series of winter evening lectures for the dark winter nights when there’s nothing on telly.

Saturday 26th January – Tim Emmett will be joining us and will give us an insight into his world of climbing, deep water soloing and BASE Jumping.

Saturday will also see our Birthday celebrations – Dynamic Rock will be 2 years old and we plan to celebrate with Tim’s lecture and a party and buffet. There will be live music and we’re hoping to make a real event of it – more info to follow nearer the time.

CHRIS SHARMA! Date to be confirmed, but this is going to be a once in a lifetime chance to hear what one of the great climbers of our time has to say.

BRYCS: We’re pleased to announce that we will be hosting a round of the British Regional Youth Climbing Series again this year. The centre has been booked for Saturday 5th April and will be open to competitors and spectators only. There will be some disruption for route setting and preparation but we will do our best to keep it to a minimum and let you know in advance.

NEW NGB Award

The MLT are launching a new award in the New Year and we are teaming up with Chris Allen, MIA of Rockall Mountaineering to help provide it. The award is for those who want to supervise groups on indoor and outdoor climbing walls and towers, great for teachers, youth leaders, DofE providers etc and will cover the skills and leadership qualities needed to introduce and supervise novice climbers on typical top roping and bouldering walls. Chris will be providing training courses and assessments. Places are available now for 26th/27th January – further dates to be announced.

The BMC Leading Ladder competition has now finished at Dynamic Rock, but there are still many rounds being held across the country throughout 2008 if you feel like testing yourself! The competition routes are still up if you want to have a go just for fun.
