Apologies for the delay with our third update, but things have been manic.We left off last time with the steel work
being erected for the mezzanine structure. This went in pretty rapidly

With our new reception floor being put in within an hour!

The reception and changing area began to take shape

The next major occurrence was the removal of the original floor.

Obviously, this made a big difference to the feel of the space. All of a sudden, our building was beginning to feel
like a climbing centre.

Throughout the day, more of the floor was removed, and the effective height of the building really became apparent.

The reception and toilet areas are progressing well

And the space created for the café is really good.

As promised, the 14^th of November saw the arrival of the wall.

There were some heart stopping moments as the pallets of ready cut ply were ‘wobbled’ from lorry to basement.

But the day went without a hitch – Almost (the JCB ran over a sharp edge of steel and got a puncture, incidentally,
the AA didn’t have a spare to fit!)

The Livingstone team soon got underway, and the bouldering wall sprung up in about a week.

Work then began on the slab.

The next major installment is the staircase and walkway, which is due for completion by Christmas.

At this stage, it will be very difficult to be open by the second weekend of January and it is more likely that
we will officially open on 4^th February. However, we are having the builders concentrate on finishing the
reception/café areas and expect that by the 6th January the bouldering room and slab will be complete and
the café/reception will be fully operational. With this in mind, we are having a pre launch event that weekend.
Friday will see the first official University of Wales – Swansea Mountaineering Club reunion. Saturday will host a
registration day for prospective customers and the evening will see three guest speakers: Dave Lucas,
Ben Heason and Andy Kirkpatrick (Events to be ticketed).

If we have time, you might see another update before Christmas. If not, there will at least be some more
information posted with regards to our pre-launch party.
