Job Title: Climbing Centre Assistant
Reporting to: Centre Manager
Location: Dynamic Rock Adventures

Purpose of Job

As Climbing Instructor, you will be responsible for inspiring and motivating customers.   You will help people of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels develop their confidence through climbing, and will be responsible for promoting a safe climbing environment for experienced and novice climbers alike.

The list below outlines the principal duties and tasks related to this role.  This is not intended to cover every responsibility since, by the nature of the role, the Climbing Instructor will be expected to take ownership of the areas of accountability below and to develop them in line with the needs of Dynamic Rock Adventures. 

Main Areas of Accountability:

1       Provide direct instruction in all aspects of the climbing sessions run by Dynamic Rock.

2       Be responsible for the health and safety of all customers under your supervision.

3       Maintain records relating to instructed sessions and working hours.

4       Deal with queries from customers and other staff members in a professional and courteous manner

5       Conduct role to agreed standards

6       Adopt a proactive approach to sales and customer care, performing to agreed standards to maintain quality.

7       Work positively in accordance with the Dynamic Rock Adventures policies and procedures.

8       Carry out any other duties as may be reasonably required.

9       Help maintain a high standard of cleanliness and instruction though-out the center.

 

Essential qualifications, skills and abilities:

1.     Relevant personal climbing experience

2.     Minimum of an SPA Training or CWA Training or Assessed in either.

3.     Experience of teaching others

4.     Up to date knowledge of current climbing best practice

5.     Enthusiastic about introducing climbing to others to climbing

6.     Able to use own initiative

7.     Strong commitment to health and safety

8.     The ability to work as part of a team

9.     Effective communication skills

Desirable qualifications, skills and abilities:

1.             SPA or CWA assessed

2.             First Aid qualification

3.             Clean DBS

4.             Knowledge of NICAS and experience in instructing.

5.             Experience of coaching in any sport

Salary and Hours

1    Salary:

National minimum wage an hour (pay increased are available but this depends on qualifications and experience)

To include at least one weekday evening and

one weekend day.

2     Hours:

A minimum of 16 hours a month.  Hours will be worked on a shift system and will include weekends and evenings

Opening hours – Monday – Friday 2:00 – 10:00pm

Saturday and Sunday 10:00am – 6:00pm

3     Holidays:

28 days leave per calendar year (n.b. the centre is open for most bank holidays) pro rata see contract for details.

Reporting to: Centre Manager

Location: Dynamic Rock Adventures

Purpose of Job

The role is to run NICAS sessions 1 - 5, in addition also avalible to this role is the oppertunity to assist with management of the centre when the assistant manager and manager are not present. You will oversee the team of instructors for the shift as well as instructing on sessions yourself. We are predominantly looking for somebody who can deliver the NICAS scheme levels 1-5 and be able to teach lead climbing to a high standard. The Duty Managers work closely with the Manager and Senior Admin staff.

The list below outlines the principal duties and tasks related to this/these role(s).  

Main Areas of Accountability:

1.    To report to Manager and senior staff

2.    To run the full range of sessions predominantly NICAS Levels 1-5

3.    Engage with all centre users in a friendly, enthusiastic and professional manner.

4.    Ensure that all climbing sessions are being delivered to the highest standard in regards to safety and enjoyment.

5.    To ensure the centre remains clean and tidy for all users and assist centre staff in doing so.

6.    As duty manager, you must take responsibility for opening and/or closing the centre, following opening and closing procedures.

7.    To undertake safety checks on climbing equipment and facilities when asked to do so by the manager.

8.    Deal with accidents, incidents and near misses as they arise and record them appropriately

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Essential qualifications, skills and abilities:

1.    To be assessed as a Single Pitch Award holder or Climbing Wall Award holder.

2.    To have a current 16 hour First Aid Certificate

3.    Have a clean DBS

4.    To have 2 years experience in running climbing sessions indoor or outdoors.

5.    Have experience in lead climbing, NICAS and running a variety of different sessions.

6.    Up to date knowledge of current climbing best practice

7.    Enthusiastic about introducing climbing to others to climbing

8.    An understanding of health and safety.

9.    The ability to work as part of a team and have good communication skills

Desirable qualifications, skills and abilities:

1.    Climbing Wall Leading Award or higher

2.    BMC Fundamentals 1+2

3.    Foundation Coach and/or Development Coach Award trained or assessed.

4.    Experience in coaching NICAS sessions and experience in instructing.

5.    Experience of coaching in any sport

6.    Experience as a Duty Manager or Senior Instructor

7.    Practical building maintenance skills and qualifications.

SALARY AND HOURS

      Salary:

£7.50 - £9.00 an hour (depends on qualification and experience)

Work involved working weekday evenings and weekends

      Hours:

A minimum of 8 hours a month contract (can be increased depends on applicants commitments).  Hours will be worked on a shift system and will include weekends and bank holidays. 

Opening hours – Monday – Friday 2:00 – 10:00pm
Saturday and Sunday 10:00am – 6:00pm
